Educational Scholarship
WUMFA Scholarship Grant
Any WUMFA member in good standing and their employees, are eligible to apply for the scholarship grant. This scholarship awards the recipient with full registrations for the Spring and Fall WUMFA conventions in addition to designated workshops provided by the WUMFA Center For Education for one full calendar year. The term of the scholarship is for one calendar year and cannot be extended beyond that term or transferred to a third party. Any travel expenses associated with the conventions or classes are the responsibility of the recipient.
Directions for completing the application:
A. Read the entire application before filling it out.
B. The application must be filled out in black ink or typewritten.
C. Answer all questions in complete sentences.
D. If a particular question does not apply, please note “N/A” in the space. Do not leave a question blank.
E. If additional space is required to complete a question, more pages may be added.
F. Please attach a recent photograph of yourself.
G. Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application. Examples of acceptable references include: instructors, former and/or current employers, AIFD members and others (preferably those in the floral industry) who can objectively testify to your personal and professional qualities. Please do not use relatives and close friends as references.
H. Assemble the application as follows: application form with personal photograph paper clipped to the upper right hand corner, additional information if necessary, personal letter, two letters of recommendation. Either staple the application together in the upper left hand corner or assemble in a report cover. A neat, professional presentation is requested.

Retailer Of The Year Award
Reserved for only a member of the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Florists’
Association that has done an outstanding job as a retail florist. This to be in terms of service to the public, good business operations, service to the industry, and
service to retailers as well as services to the community and industry activity.
Grower Of The Year Award
Reserved for members of the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Florists’ Association
who have done an outstanding job of growing, distributing, new methods of
production and service to retailers as well as services to the community and
industry activity.
Special Services Award
Organizational activity, research or education, retailer, wholesale distributor or allied tradesman. The award might be made to those in these categories for their contribution to the industry and/or the association.
Wholesaler /tradesman Of The Year Award
“Praemium Ad Excellentem Laborem” … In recognition and appreciation of the
unselfish labor and achievement for the advancement of the floricultural industry
within the boundaries of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
Young Person Of The Year Award
Anyone connected with the floriculture industry—retailer, wholesaler, grower,
allied tradesman or trade organization member—for meritorious service to the
floral industry, community, and potential service to the industry and community in
the future. Age limit: 35 years with two years in the floral industry.
National Service Award
Anyone connected with the floriculture industry—retailer, wholesaler, growers,
education, plant breeder, etc.—for outstanding service to the florists industry of America.

Educational Scholarship
The Richard Leyes Educational Scholarship, is a new educational scholarship that was created in memory of Richard Leyes (Janesville Floral Company). This scholarship was designed for young persons who wish to become professional florists. The recipient will be awarded $1000. The scholarship money is restricted to educational tuition only and is intended for enrollment in professional floral design schools, technical or academic schools offering floral design or WUMFA design seminars. Applicants must possess the need, talent, dedication and desire to become a professional retail florist. Applicants can also include apprentice designers already working in retail shops who wish to improve themselves.
